Big Tree City | Environments Exterior

- - -
Big Tree City was a challenging yet rewarding project where we created a sprawling urban environment with a surprisingly small modeling team. To manage this, we had to be incredibly resourceful. Our approach began with the development of a versatile asset library, consisting of various building bases, midsections, and tops. This modular system allowed us to quickly generate a wide range of building variations and adapt them as needed throughout production.

The modularity was crucial; it enabled us to easily modify assets, like adding a bridge between two buildings to enhance a foreground shot. The project was a massive team effort, and I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together.

Once all the buildings, props, and terrain elements were completed, assembling the city was like an elaborate game of LEGO. This process taught me a lot about set dressing—balancing detail and clarity on screen. A special shoutout to my amazing colleague, Jessica Hau Yan Cheung, who did the iconic HQ building.

Special thanks to my lead, Jan Krocak, and the entire environment team for their support.
